Les défis de la restauration des films iraniens : contrôle gouvernemental et contournement de la censure

Abstract

The archiving and restoration of Iranian films poses intricate challenges due to government censorship, driven by ideological and political reasons. The authorities influence the selection of films for restoration by employing various forms of censorship, both direct and indirect. Despite the hurdles, individuals engaged in restoration work devise diverse strategies to bypass these limitations and preserve films through digitization and restoration processes. These endeavors for rediscovery and restoration of pre-1979 films have also prompted a new understanding of the history of Iranian cinema, often marked by gaps, particularly concerning Iranian auteur cinema.
