Abstract

In this paper, we tackle the subject of the production modes and funding sources in the independent performing arts, and we analyze the questions that it raises. We examine its role as a key factor in the independent performing arts field over the past twenty years. We attempt to study the funding resources of independent performing arts in the Arab region by dwelling on the main players in the creation of the field, i.e. the Arab donor institutions that emerged in the 90s, inspired by the model of European cultural non-profit organizations. These entities take generally either the form of support funds providing grants and commissions or the form of cultural organizations combining supportive programs, projects and frameworks.
