Abstract

Throughout history, the integration of archival images into cinema has taken different forms depending on contexts and styles. Whether in fiction, documentary or experimental filmmaking, archival footage has been used for different purposes and for different reasons. Over time, this practice turns into an aesthetic and is referred to as found footage. This article asks the question of the link between the cinema constructed from found footage and the philosophical concept of “heterotopias” developed by Michel Foucault, by studying the films representing the plays of Ziad Rahbani Bennesbe la boukra chou? and Film ameriki tawil, released in 2016, and which (archival) footage was re-edited more than three decades later.
