Abstract

Based on two films: La Ricotta by Pier Paolo Pasolini and The Message by Mostapha Akkad, I plan to question the relation between Art and Religion. Two semiotic approaches seem to be in opposition in this debate. We will call them in verbis and in factis following the Umberto Eco’s terminology. Dealing with works of Art, I will point at the link that these two concepts have with the idea of The Open Work. As for me, the conflict is produced by the shift of the debate from aesthetics to politics. It turns around a margin of tolerance and openness to all kinds of otherness. In Art this leads to renewal.
