Abstract

Last Day of Spring ("آخر يوم في الربيع", 2018) is a monodrama written and played by Fidaa Zidan (فداء زيدان, b. in 1989) that premiered at The National Palestinian Theatre/El-Hakawati in Jerusalem in July 2018. Last Day of Spring tells the story of a young girl from a Druze village in the Galilee who founds herself alone with her parents after the death of her brother during his military service in Israel. Military service is compulsory for Druze men in Israel since 1956. Annoyed by her brother’s burial at the military cemetery, she is determined to offer him a burial in the family grave which was initially her parents’ wish. Inspired by her personal story and several gathered testimonies, the play highlights a little-known Palestinian reality and gives a voice to forgotten communities and victims of torn identities of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
