Abstract
The Christian presence in the Middle East is currently more compromised than ever. The challenges it faces are considerable, including the ecclesiological ones. In this “essay”, the author proposes an approach to ecclesiology in the Middle East that recalls the great principles, the shaping of history and the role of the Christian communities in a region that is increasingly at the heart of the turmoil. While their future looks bleak, the path of synodality and ecumenical collaboration offers them signs of hope and opportunities to play a role and achieve a mission, that is the proclamation of the Gospel and the fulfilling of the Mystery of the Church hic et nunc.
