Abstract

Historically, the discipline of translation studies has undergone many changes affecting its essence, research methods, topics, tools, as well as stakeholders’ role(s). Yet, there is still much to be transformed in regards to turns (Snell‑Hornby, 2006), technological advances and mainstream discourses. Aimed at investigating the role of translation as an income-generating activity, this article reviews how translation has changed – from the Tower of Babel to the digital age – highlighting some on-field realities and prominent training challenges, with a focus on translators’ activities as entrepreneurs.
