Note on the Document of Alexandria

Abstract

The 15^th plenary session of the Joint International Commission for Theological Dialogue between the Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church took place from June 1^st to 7^th, 2023, hosted by Patriarch Theodoros II in Alexandria, Egypt. The commission aimed to conclude the new phase of dialogue initiated by the Ravenna document, addressing ecclesiological interdependence, historical examination of the first millennium (Chieti document), and depiction of the second millennium (Alexandria document). The Alexandria document, a seven-year culmination, faced challenges, with the Russian Patriarchate and other patriarchates abstaining. The document signifies an important step forward, paving the way for further theological and canonical discussions.
