Abstract
The text builds on the apostolic exhortation “New Hope for Lebanon” by Pope John Paul II and stresses the need for accompaniment and the idea of “Together” in the Lebanese Church and society. It advocates for working and building together in an ecclesial spirit, rather than in isolation or competition. It analyses the current situation of Lebanon, its role, the state of the Church, and its social relations, and identifies the socio-political challenges that the country faces. It also calls for national unity and solidarity in the face of difficulties. It highlights the unique role of Lebanon as a sign of freedom and pluralism in the region.
Regarding the Church, it discusses its structure, social involvement, and internal challenges, and criticizes the individualistic approach of some ecclesiastical institutions. It urges for more cooperation and coordination among the different Church actors for the common good.
