Abstract
Our work proposes to break with the ordinary idea that the irrational in cinema is the an outside foreign to rationality. On the contrary, it aims to show that it is always at the heart of the shot and that it involves the relationship between shot and off-screen area. The irrational in cinema is therefore both a disturbance of the image and the condition of the image. It is therefore at the same time 1) what is figured on the screen, 2) the energy that animates it and 3) its condition of possibility.
