Abstract
For Koïchiro Matsuura, Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) between 1999 and 2009, “the scarcity of freshwater is the greatest danger looming for the planet”.
Freshwater is a vital resource, a factor of economic and social development, but also an object of conflicts between nations. Therefore, we need to explore the socio-economic and geopolitical implications of access to such resource that is becoming an increasingly scarce economic asset, for a global population in perpetual growth and an also growing individual demand.
