Résumé

This article examines the manifestations of the irrational as a structuring
principle in Abdelwahab Meddeb’s Phantasia. Through fragmented writing
and a decentered syntax, Meddeb subverts Cartesian rationality to explore
the “imaginal world” and Sufi mysticism. This study demonstrates that such
linguistic and temporal nomadism allows for the transcendence of postcolonial
dualisms. Furthermore, it frames the scriptural act as an experience of “visionary
insight”, thereby rehabilitating the subject’s opacity and its radical alterity.
